AFRICAN VOCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME (AVOP).

AVOP

In response to PUSH AFRICA’s desire to impact on the less opportune members of society and the dire need to help reduce unemployment in Africa especially amongst the disadvantaged or less privileged women and young people in remote and outlying areas in Africa, PUSH AFRICA organizes mobile outreach skill acquisition and vocational training programmes where mobile units comprising equipment, tools, trainers and training consumables moves from a remote site or suburbs to the other delivering 4 to 12week long skill acquisition programmes and fully integrated with entrepreneurship development and Life Skills education.

After training, trainees undertake an attachment/internship programme, where necessary, PUSH AFRICA offers post-training support such as linking trainees with micro-financing institutions for support of start-ups or providing employment windows for these sects.

OUTSTANDING AFRICAN WOMEN ACHIEVERS AWARD (OAWA).

OAWA

The Outstanding African Women Awards (OAWA) is a collaborative platform dedicated to recognizing and celebrating outstanding female leaders in business, government, education, non-profits and various fields of endeavors. We take time out to celebrate women who are driving visions, innovations and inspiring the younger generation of women and girls through their works and contributions to the growth of country and society. The award also seeks to award organizations that have stepped up, encouraged, support and shaped women’s roles within the private and public sectors.

The awards categories would reflect a wide spectrum of work these deserving women from the public, private and non-profit sectors are involved in. This includes founders, CEOs, SMEs, executives and leaders in politics, government departments and agencies, local communities as well as entrepreneurs.

Outstanding African Women Awards (OAWA) would also bring to you the first Annual Outstanding African Women Conference – a gathering that would host Africa’s most prominent female leaders.
The Conference will be unveiling some of the most successful and highly inspiring stories and journeys and various strategies implemented around the empowerment of women. It will be a great talk shop, networking, ideas sharing and motivational workshop.

We will bring together experts, academics, government representatives and the most influential captains of industry. This powerful combination of game-changers will focus their experience, expertise and energy on overcoming the major roadblocks we face in gender empowerment and equality of women.
Proceeds from the event would be used to support the women and girls through our WG-NEET programme, (Women & Girls who are not in education, employment or training) women and girls who have been displaced as a result of the boko haram insurgency.

THE NEET PROJECT

The proportion of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) in Nigeria will continue to increase in number every year considering the global recession and the general slowdown in the labour market, with fewer job opportunities for young people seeking work. Our definition of a person identified as NEET is one who is uneducated, unemployed or economically inactive.

The NEET Project is one of our empowerment programme that caters for young people aged 18-35 who are not in Education, Employment or Training. This programme is introduced by our organization with the aim of reducing the number of young people who are in the NEET population or category through our NEET campaigns and AVOP programme to empower the youth through holiday job experience and or vocational skill development programme.

Research shows that young people who have multiple encounters with business or work while at school are significantly less likely to be NEET, and are also more likely to gain employment after graduation from school than their peers who have never had any work experience whilst in school. Our research also reveals that over 89% of secondary school pupils and 68% of university or polytechnic students have never been off-site to visit an employer.

It is for this reason we carry out campaigns to sensitize secondary and tertiary school students, emphasizing on the Importance of holiday jobs and vocational education. We establish links between secondary schools, colleges universities and polytechnics and the professional or vocational workplaces in order to deal with the issue of NEET over a longer term.

We hope to work jointly with government and non-governmental organizations to fully implement this project.

MISS EDUCATION NIGERIA PEGEANT (MEN).

MEN

Girl-child education has become a matter of concern to stakeholders in Nigeria. Women in Nigeria have had various challenges in order to obtain equal education in all forms of formal education in Nigeria. Education bestows on women a disposition for a lifelong acquisition of knowledge, values, attitudes, competence and skills.

To ensure equal access to education, the National Policy on Education states that access to education is a right for all Nigerian children regardless of gender, religion and disability yet there are still some short falls in the area of equal access and support especially for the girl-child, the reason this initiative is timely and cannot be overemphasized.

Miss Education Nigeria (MEN) is a brain child of Miss Doris Egberamen, the founder of PUSH AFRICA and the CEO Deerex Ventures. The event is an annual pageant which creates the platform for a campaign for the right to Girl-Child Education.

Through this platform, the emerging winner will identify and address the socio-cultural pattern, religious misconceptions, poverty, teenage pregnancy and early marriage amongst others as factors militating against the girl-child education.

The platform hopes to source for funds from external agencies to support the campaign for the Girl Child Education and to contribute to the eradication of discriminations against women. The crowned winner will also be awarded scholarships at undergraduate or masters’ degree level as well as other consolatory prizes.

The pageant will showcase the positive attributes of the Nigerian woman, who is highly intelligent and always willing and ready to learn and be impacted upon. The winners will portray exemplary qualities and serve as role models for younger women thriving to attain the highest level of education.

The winner will also be given the platform as well as the enabling resources to execute projects that will outline the roles that the public and private sectors must play in order to improve girl-child enrollment in schools and reduce female school drop-outs. She will be expected to work in collaboration with Ministry of Education and other state parastatals on ways to foster the girl-child education in Nigeria.

AVH

AVH’s is one of PUSH AFRICA’s initiatives working in association with Deerex Ventures, an outsourcing company, to create a conducive and effective learning hub for women and the youth in Abuja-Nigeria by equipping them with entrepreneur and vocational skills and economic opportunities to become financially independent after training at AVH.

At AVH, we provide hands-on training in various technical, commercial and artisanship skills in small size groups with experienced trainers, instructors, designers and product development experts in the fashion, craft, culinary, technical and beauty industry.

The vocational training courses we offer are based on market demand and through an on-going evaluation with our target group of young people age 18-35. The course content is made up of 80% practical training and 20% trade related theory training.

We ensure that the resource persons are friendly and willing to help every individual student learn and become independently productive. Each semester, students who pass their exams (both practical and theory) receive certificates at festive graduation ceremonies organized by AVH and afterwards posted to related industry for practical internship.

Our training duration ranches from 8weeks to 12months depending on the course or level of learning. The 80% practical exposure is made possible by our unique Franchise Model whereby all courses are franchised to local entrepreneurs who pay for the use of AVH facilities, equipment and brand name while also training registered trainees on-the-job.

Our curriculum is defined and scheduled and the quality of the vocational training is controlled by Deerex Ventures using their strict operational policy. Life skills education and entrepreneurship training also form a part of the curriculum for trainees as well.

AVH program goes even further to help boost trainees entrepreneur skills, encourage as well as support start-ups for all our trainees. The training sessions also exposes students to new and innovative ways of applying the acquired skills, new products, new designs and contemporary techniques. They have the opportunity to train and implement the skills and techniques learnt by creating their own brands, products and services that will be sold in the marketplace and compete with other products both in the local and global market.
